| Special Response Team |
The Special Response Team, (S.R.T.), was created the summer of 2002. The team was started due to the ever changing need for specialized law enforcement. Drug use and an increase in violent crimes are just a few crimes that brought about the need for the S.R.T.
From August 2002 until June 2005 the team was made up of eight Deputies from Sioux and Lyon Counties. In June of 2005 the team was expanded to 10 Officers; they come from: Sioux and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rock Valley Police Department.
The S.R.T. has recently purchased two command vehicles with forfeited drug monies. One vehicle is positioned in Lyon County and the other here in Sioux County. The vehicles are beneficial because of the ability to contain all the specialized equipment needed for rapid deployment. The unit in Sioux County will also deploy to any situation where a mobile command/investigatory situation may exist.

The Special Response Team is used for high risk warrants, hostage situations, and higher than normal risk situations. The team trains once a month to keep skills at a high level. The training consists of firearms training, house entries, active shooter scenarios, and deployment of specialized equipment. The team has also trained for scenarios that could occur in a jail setting, which is very beneficial for the Sioux and Lyon County Jails.
